Retirement Nightmare came about as I was pushed out of my cushy job after training my replacements. Yes replacements. As a consultant in the oil industry you are only as good as your last job and the amount of work you can accomplish without error or fuss. I was well liked in the company, and had numerous credits to the work that I had accomplished. A good trainer of personnel and an effective communicator of ideas and procedures.
What a nightmare
So here I was after a successful career in the oil business, with several assets and a ton of experience, but limited cash in the bank. Not a great place to be in when you are over 50 and no prospect for another job in the immediate, nor distant future. Suddenly there was no work anywhere, not a sniff, or a nibble. Nobody wanted my skills in the industry. There I was “retired” with few prospects.
I had accumulated numerous things over the course of my career and several properties, but I did not own them outright and did not have cash reserves to sustain me or my family. I was in trouble. The problem with owning “things” is that they are not readily convertible into cash. Yes, you can convert some items into cash, but you will not get out of your “items” what you have put into them.
Help is needed
I needed an answer to my dilemma. I had the time but lacked the resources to help myself. In order to move forward I needed to learn what could be done for my situation. I knew that I could acquire knowledge and had a capacity to teach it to others. This is where Retirement Nightmare was born. Mastering the tools needed to sustain myself would allow me to pass this information along to others who were facing unplanned retirement. I have always liked helping people (You know that guy he will “give you the shirt off his back”). Fortunately that axiom has brought me here where it may finally do some good.
Recognising that there were others like me who had reached an age where retirement might happen at any time, and few were prepared gave me the passion to help if I could. This site is dedicated to everyone who worked hard, provided for family and friends, and then suddenly woke up one day and wondered where it all went, and what happened.
Our Goal
The goal of Retirement-Nightmare is to provide the tools necessary to avoid our own Retirement Nightmares. Many people are ill-prepared, or not prepared for retirement. Time estimates that in the US alone approximately 30% of the population has zero saved for retirement. Unfortunately the number is growing all the time. Our aim is to provide insight and resources to improve the odds for you as you reach the “golden years”.
All the best,
Alex
